Our canine-ological clock is tickin'!
Over the last month or so, we've been applying to become puppy raisers for Guide Dogs of America, and on Monday morning we became official! The wait to receive the pup that we'll have the responsibility of raising starts now!
The way things happened was that when I was a wee kid, I found my mom's old copy of
Follow My Leader, read it and found out how cool guide dogs are.
Fast forward a couple decades, and I met Foxy and her raiser Jenny at school. Foxy is a golden retriever, and is almost done with her puppy-raising time before she heads back for official guide dog training! Well, I got the name and number of the puppy raising coordinator over at Guide Dogs of America and off we went with applications, interviews, and meetings!
On Saturday we attended the puppy class up at GDA. On Sunday Glyn interviewed us. (The interview was preceded by LOTS of cleaning out at our house! We're 80% puppy-safe now!) And on Monday we attended the Westside puppy raisers meeting- which included a wonderful dinner out with over a dozen dogs! This is what you might see if there's a guide dog at the table next to you:

So now we're a'waiting. I wonder how often is appropriate to call GDA to check on the puppies?
I've literally dreamed about puppies the last two nights. Exciting times!
