One Biiiiilllion Mutts!

Pet adoption festivals rock. It's so wonderful to see people ready to bring a cat or dog into their life, and it's great to know these awesome pets will soon have homes.

Yesterday I had the privilege of telling potential adopters about "Geisha" from New Leash on Life. In that time she had THREE applications! She is such a wonderful dog- I know one of those homes will be just right for her.

There are so many other dogs that need homes every day. Some might not be quite as gorgeous as Geisha, but they're all wonderful!

With huge thanks to Puck90, who was taking pics throughout the adoption fair- see pictures of more thoroughly adoptable doggies: http://www.flickr.com/photos/puck90/sets/72157600008475325/

Luck O' The Irish... Wolfhound! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Saturday's Shelter Special:

Meet Arthur, a Irish Wolfhound, Old English Sheepdog Mix! He needs the luck of the Irish that's in him, because he's looking for the right family to become his forever home!

The Coppercloud Ranch Pet Rescue says:

He is terribly shy and will need a loving, patient family to earn his trust. He wouldn't hurt a flea. He loves other dogs and they really boost his confidence, so a home with another playmate would be ideal.

Chien métis! We're sooo continental, we have mutts from France!

Look at our French ami! Is it just me, or are her ears reminiscent of a French nun's wimple?

Just me? Well, okay.

Joe, the luckiest ballplaying, beachgoing mutt around!

Joe was a pound pooch. His fantastic owner saw the love in those floppy ears (check out the other pictures for a glimpse of his wise eyes!) and brought him home to sunny, sandy life!

Saturday's Shelter Special: Bear!

From the beautiful ranks of the shelter dogs on Petfinder, today you can see the cutest not-so-little mutt in Oregon!

http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=7889155

Here's what they have to say about him:

BEAR is a male Griffon/Terrier mix. He is only 13 months-old and has a
puppy's rambunctious playfulness and energy. But at 80 lbs, he is also
a lot of dog to be bouncing around the house. He adores other dogs,
adores people, loves little kids, and loves cats. But he's just too
big for a household with small children - he would affectionately bowl
them over. And though he goodnaturedly wants to play chase with cats,
cats don't want to play with him. He has all his shots, and is
neutered, micro-chipped, and crate-trained. Bear is very intelligent
and really wants to please. He enjoys obedience training and will be
so proud when he gets his Canine Good Citizen Certificate. Bear has a
big heart to go with his big body and he will love the people who give
him his forever home --- forever. If you would like to get acquainted
with Bear, please call Project POOCH at 503-982-4492.

A trip to the library...

I discovered a lovely little tome last night at my local public library: "The Complete Guide to Mutts" by Margaret H. Bonham. Amazon has them used from just $.55! I'm not sure if it's enough of a reference to be worth purchasing, but I am thrilled that it exists!

It also mentioned a lovely book, "Unforgettable Mutts: Pure of Heart Not of Breed" by Karen Derrico. I have placed that book on hold, and am very excited- the excerpts on Amazon look awesome!

Off to jury duty. Ah, the real world interferes!

I've gone and done it

My obsession with the muttalicious has taken a new turn: I bought a domain name. DailyMutt.com is now my joy and responsiblity.

Perusing the universe of adorable animal goodness, I discovered that while there was a Daily Puppy, there wasn't a site devoted to the mutts of the world. True, some of those pups are mutts, but too often they're named with absurd Breed A x Breed B x Breed C hybrid names. (I personally call the American Eskimo Dog / Poodle an "Ameripooski" but I refuse to dignify any of the "doodle" hybrid names. What's next, the Chinabrapooskisha?)

They're mutts! Glorious mutts!

So here we go. While I could never hope to achieve the Cute Overload glory, which is due entirely to Meg Frost's wit and fabulousness, I do hope to bring a little mutt happiness into each day!
